In an accident? Don’t pannic!

| Short-Term Insurance

Vehicle accidents can be a traumatic experience, especially if we’re involved in one that we didn’t cause. We asked Santam to share some insights what you should do in the event of an accident. We understand that road accidents are a reality we need to be prepared for and we’re committed to doing all we can to prevent further stress during the claims process.

In order to get any affected vehicles to a place of safety and repaired speedily, we need to ensure that key information is gathered at the scene of the accident.

What to do in the event of an accident

Please remember to ensure the following information is captured on a cell phone or written down:

1. Turn on the hazard lights. Do not leave the accident scene.
2. Call the POLICE on 10111 if there are injuries/the a driver under the influence of alcohol
3. Take photos of the accident scene and move the vehicle out of the traffic
4. If the vehicle is NOT driveable or there are injured people, leave it where it is, display triangles and call Roadside Assistance
5. Take down details of other drivers, vehicles involved, witnesses and the location
6. Do NOT enter into any discussions about payment or responsibility for the accident, whatever the circumstances
7. File an Accident Report (AR) at your nearest Police Station within 24 hours.

Once reported, we will send a reputable service provider to assist at the scene of the accident.

Santam also shared – 6 critical things outlined below which should be taken note of in the event of an accident involving a third party.

  • Driver’s ID number
  • Driver’s phone number and email address
  • Vehicle model/make and registration number

Why is this important?

Having this information on hand makes it much easier to deal with any third party’s insurance company and, depending on the nature of the accident and the profile of the third party, it also means we’re in a stronger position to recover the vehicle’s excess on you or your client’s behalf. Our main aim is to ensure that the claim is processed quickly and efficiently so your clients can get back on the road in no time.
